William “Bill” Lee Long passed away on December 26th, 2020 at Pinnacle Park Nursing Facility. Bill was born on May 3, 1933 in Portis, KS to Ralph and LaWave Long. He grew up in Hunter, KS with his maternal grandparents and graduated from Hunter High School in 1951. After high school he worked until joining the Navy in 1953. Bill served in the Navy for four years during the Korean War. After discharging from the Navy, Bill went on to join the Air Force, where he went on to become a Master Sergeant before retiring in 1973, serving our country for 22 years. After his time in the military, Bill went on to work for the United States Postal Service. He began his career as a postal clerk in Salina, KS and retired as the postmaster for the Tescott, KS post office in 1993. Bill married Dana J. Kiser on June 13, 1955. Together they had one son, Dale W. Long. Dana precedes him in death, along with one brother, “Shorty” Long and one sister, Brooka Crandell. He is survived by his brother Bob Long and wife Arlene, son Dale Long and wife Kelli, grandson Jon and wife Ruthie, granddaughter Katie and husband Eric. During his life, Bill enjoyed watching sports, particularly football, basketball and especially baseball. Bill also enjoyed fishing and having friendly political debates. Mostly, Bill enjoyed laughing with his friends and family and spending time with his dog, Gus. Bill will be missed by many family and friends. Cremation has been chosen and a memorial will be planned at a later date.
