Barbara Ruth Mallon

Barbara Ruth Mallon, 88, of Salina, Kansas, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025.

Born in Lyons Kansas, Barbara graduated Boulder High School. Homesick for Kansas, she returned to get her BS in medical technology at K-State beginning a lifetime career in healthcare. During her senior year of college, she completed an internship at the State Hospital in Pueblo, Colorado, and then began a series of further adventures: first the Northern Pacific Beneficial Hospital in Glendive, Montana, (where she enjoyed square dancing and friendships), then her faith led her to a position at the Maynard-McDougal Memorial Hospital in Nome, Alaska (as part of a Methodist mission), before returning home to Boulder in 1962 and briefly working at Colorado General in Denver. Soon she accepted a position at Presbyterian Mora Valley Medical Clinic in the mountains of New Mexico, where she stayed for two years, before returning to home in Kansas and a job in Salina. She spent nearly 40 years working in the laboratory at what was then Asbury Hospital (and is now Salina Regional Health Center).

It was in Salina that she joined a church group for young adults, finding many friends, and ultimately a special man, Jerry, to whom she was married until his passing in 2015.

Throughout her long life, she was guided and comforted by her Christian faith, and she manifested her faith in the concern she had for others, including the support she offered to her mother, her brother Ralph, and her husband during long illnesses.

Barbara is survived by her two sons, Ron Mallon (Johnelle Lamarque) and Gary Mallon; two brothers, Ray McKinnis (Nan Scarborough) and Lawrence McKinnis; and two grandchildren, Avanel Mallon and Louis Mallon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jerry Mallon; and brothers Dean McKinnis and Ralph McKinnis.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 1, 2025 at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home with burial to follow at Gypsum Hill Cemetery in Salina, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to The Red Cross or The Salvation Army in care of Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home.
