Bernadino 'Benny' Martinez Bernadino 'Benny' Martinez, 82, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Thursday, March 6th, at Salina Regional Health Center. Bernadino was born in Deerfield, Kansas on May 20, 1931, to the late Mary (Moreno) and Francisco Martinez. He was employed as an Iron worker at Metalcast for 33 years. He also worked for Morrison Grain and the Santa Fe Rail Road. Benny was the husband of Ruperta M. Martinez, and an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Ruperta; son, Bernadino F. (Phoung) Martinez, of Salina; step daughters, Liz (Mike) Collins, of Kanopolis Lake, Kansas, and Clara (Mike) Jewell, of Wichita, Kansas; step sons, Daniel Diaz, Herman (Candis) Diaz, and Michael Diaz, all of Salina; as well as 15 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Cremation has been chosen. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday at Sacred Heart Catholic Cathedral. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina, Kansas, at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 10th, 2014 with Father Frank Coady officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association; 608 West Douglas Avenue; Suite 100, Wichita, Kansas, 67203.
