Brenda Joyce Ascher, 69, passed away Friday, January 19, 2018, at Dignity Care Home of Salina. Brenda was born October 15, 1948 in Denver, Colorado, to Melvin C. and Florence M. (Jones) Painter. She moved to Emporia, Kansas as a young child. She received her Bachelors Degree in Education from Emporia State University, and Masters Degree from Fort Hays State University. She worked for USD 305 for 38 years, beginning in elementary education, and then going into special education. She retired as Director of Central Kansas Cooperative in Education in 2007. Survivors include her husband, Philip; daughter Karleen (Ron) Jackson of Salina; grandson Vincent Moore of Tulsa, Oklahoma; granddaughter Erin Jackson of Salina; mother Florence Painter of Topeka; sister Janet Schalansky of Topeka; brother Richard (Becky) Painter of Overland Park; and brothers-in-law Stephen (Ruth) and David (Kayla) Ascher. She was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Painter, and brother-in-law, James Schalansky. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 27th, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 111 W. Magnolia, Salina. A luncheon will follow in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tammy Walker Cancer Center of Salina, or Hospice of Salina, in care of Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home.
