David Lowell Backus, Sr.

David Lowell Backus, Sr., 78, of Colby, Kansas, passed away Saturday, October 16th, 2021. David was born in Dallas, Texas on July 17, 1943, a son of Thelma Irene (Holder) and Thomas Edward Backus. He was a Foreman at Midwest Energy. On June 20, 1970, David married Phyllis Cotten in Hill City, Kansas. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Backus; two sons, David Backus Jr. (Laura), of Ellis, Kansas, Patrick Backus, of Winfield, Kansas; daughter, Ashley Backus, of Colby, Kansas; 6 grandchildren, Riley Backus, Thomas Backus, Opal-Anne Backus, Allison Backus, Jamie Williams, Keef Heatley. David is also survived by two sisters, Barbara McGuire, of Paris, Texas; Donna Smith (Danny), of Clarksville, Texas; two brothers, Michael Backus (Debra), of Dallas, Texas, Kenny Backus (Melanie), of Clarksville, Texas; and sister-in-law, Gloria Backus, of Dallas, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ronnie Backus. Cremation has been chosen and services will be announced at a later date.
