Dorothy Maydean Huebner, 85, of Salina, passed away Thursday, January 26th, at Holiday Resort. Dorothy was born in Grand Island, Nebraska on January 31, 1926, to the late Maydean (Douglas) and Clarence 'Butch' Sweet. She would recall fondly how her mother was a 'flapper' and how her parents were a fashionable couple of 'the Roaring 20s.' She grew up in the country where she enjoyed riding her horse bareback and often spoke of how much she loved the trees. Dorothy was a high school graduate and later attended Grand Island Business College. In her youth she loved to sing, play the piano and even tap dance. She also enjoyed writitng poetry and often wrote verse for her own greeting cards to friends and family. She would often make up a cute rhyme to entertain, much like her father. Dorothy was involved with the war effort during WWII working at the local munitions factory. After the war she met Ervin R. Huebner, a returning veteran. They were married June 19, 1954 in Grand Island, Nebraska. He precedes her in death just four years ago. Only after their son Mark was raised and gone from Salina did she pursue employment here at Schwan's in their food lab where she excelled as an experienced taster. Throughout her life Dorothy had a quick wit, an infectious sense of humor, and always had a kind word for the troubled. She also had an endless love of dogs. Dorothy is survived by her son, Mark Huebner, of Kansas City, Missouri; brother, Dale Sweet of Grand Island, Nebraska; sister-in-law Maxine Huebner of Moscow, Idaho; brother-in-law Carl Huebner of St. Paul, Nebraska; as well as numerous nieces and nephews from the midwest to the west coast. She was in a hurry to see her husband Ervin in heaven and she is now happy and at peace. Cremation has been chosen and with no visitation. A memorial service will be at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 6:00.p.m. with Pastor Todd Weatherd officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy's name to the Salina Animal Shelter, 329 N. 2nd, Salina, Kansas 67401 or to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, PO BOX 758532 Topeka, Kansas 66675-8532.
