Eugene W. Olson

Eugene 'Gene' Wallace Olson Salina, Kansas Eugene(Gene) Wallace Olson passed away September 11, 2013 at Salina Regional Health Center following results of injuries received on September 9. He was 93. Gene was born on a farm near Morganville, Kansas on January 18, 1920. He was the second son of Emil and Hedvig (Carlson) Olson. Gene attended Swedesburg grade school and Morganville High School. Gene farmed near Manchester and Morganville. After retiring from farming, Gene moved to Fairbury Nebraska and worked as a trucker. Late he moved to Beatrice and Lincoln Nebraska. Gene married Juanita Vincent Shrader on August 30, 1980. He was a loving devoted husband. Gene and Juanita met at Playmor Dance Hall near Lincoln Nebraska. After Juanita's death January 7, 2000, Gene moved to Salina, Kansas. Gene loved farming wheat and raising cattle. During retirement he would walk and swim for exercise. He would walk several miles each morning then ending up at McDonalds for a cup of coffee. Gene delivered meals for St. Elizabeth Hospital meals on wheels program to seniors around Lincoln Nebraska. Gene was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Salina Kansas. Gene is lovingly remembered by one brother, Leon Olson, Clay Center, sister-in-law, Alta Olson, Morganville, one nephew, Dan Olson and wife Nancy, Edmond Oklahoma, two nieces, Becky Olson, Morganville, Kansas Jill Gibbs and husband Kenton, Arkansas City, Kansas Collette Meyer, Flagstaff, Arizona. Three stepchildren, Duane Shrader, Diane Yakel, and Donna Rigby. Gene is preceded in death by his wife of 20 years, Juanita, parents, two brothers Emmett and Lloyd Olson, niece Brenda Nelson and great nephew Beau Nelson. Memorial services will be September 21, 1:00pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Salina Kansas with Kent Happel officiating. Interment will be Sunday September 29 at Swedesburg First Lutheran Church, Clay Center following Sunday worship service.
