Gary Lynn Dooley, 65, of Salina, passed away Monday, September 16th, at Fort Riley, Kansas. Gary was born in Randolph, Iowa on July 31, 1948, to the late Edith B. (Bobbitt) and Cecil R. Dooley. Gary was a soldier in the United States Army for 10 years. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Gary was twice awarded the Purple Heart, he earned the Bronze Star with Valor. Gary was airborne, ranger, and infantry qualified. He spent much of his service overseas in Vietnam and Thailand. Gary was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. After he served in the Military, he began working for the Department of Defense as the Web Manager for the Irwin Army Community Hospital. He was an integral part of designing the Patient Help System where he also diagnosed and repaired Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) equipment problems. He wrote the Digital Command Language (DCL) scripts and Visual Basic programs. He is survived by his wife, Jan; four children, Rocki (Jacob) Fisher, of Columbia, Missouri, Cindy Dooley, of Houston, Texas, Kimberly (Jimmy) Briscoe, of Chicago, Illinois and Et Dooley, of Salina, Kansas; two grandchildren, Paris Dooley, Alex Lynn Dooley; and one great granddaughter, Kaley Dooley; sisters, Barbara Willis, Joyce Hubbart, and Karen Hunter; brothers, Roy Dooley and Jack Dooley. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Gary and his wife loved to take trips to Thailand together. It was always in his nature to help people, and he impacted many lives with his love, kindheartedness, sense of humor and cheesy jokes. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, September 22, at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home. Family will greet friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home, at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 23rd. Memorial contributions may be made in Gary's name to the Salina Rescue Mission in c/o Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, 500 S. Ohio, Salina, Kansas 67401.
