Gene Paul Adkins, 65, of Salina, passed away Thursday, March 7th, at his Salina home. Gene was born in Glasco, Kansas on June 25, 1947, to the late Florence (Matous) Wilson and Vernon Adkins. He worked as a grain elevator operator at Gavalon Grain, formerly DeBruce Grain, and was one of their first employees. He was the husband of Connie L. (Bennett) Adkins. They were married June 3, 1978. Gene is survived by his wife Connie, of the home; daughter, Laura L. Adkins-Rico, of Salina; sisters, Charlotte (Jack) Allen, of Council Grove, Kansas and Dorothy (Wayne) Owen, of Salina; brother, Josh Adkins, of Salina; grandchildren, Meagan, Emily, and Brittanie Rico; as well as niece, Dawnetta Bennett; and nephews, David and John Owen, Robert, Brian, Christopher, and Aaron Bennett. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2013 at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 6 pm - 8 pm. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m, Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at First Covenant Church. Interment will follow at Marquette Cemetery.
