James "Jim" Clayton Shelby, Sr. James Clayton Shelby, Sr., 75, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Friday, August 27th, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born in Roxbury, Kansas on January 8, 1946, son of the late Bessie Lorena (Birch) and Fred Clayton Shelby. After serving in Vietnam as a United States Marine, Jim returned home and dedicated his life to the family farm. On September 27, 1971, James married Betty VanHoose in Salina. He lived his days as a hard worker, a strong role model for his children and grandchildren, and a kind and loving husband to Betty. Survivors include his wife, Betty Shelby; two daughters, Renee Shelby Park (Dave) of Phoenix, Arizona, Cindy Shelby of Salina; two sons, Bill Shelby (Karen) of Salina, Jimmy Shelby (Sarah) of Salina; brothers, Bill Griffith (Dee), Lee Griffith, Richard Griffith (Loretta), Fred Shelby (Tina); sisters, Betty Jane Hartzell (Max), Charlotte Griffith, and Anita Young (Bob). He is also survived by grandchildren, Reece Shelby, Kennedy Gottschalk, Calvin Park, Addison Gottschalk, Clayton Shelby, Nathan Park, and Luke Shelby. His many friends will miss his sense of humor and his generous spirit. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Thursday, September 2nd at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 am, Friday, September 3rd at First Southern Baptist Church in Salina with Rev. Greg Savage officiating.
