Joseph "Joey" Alan Hawkinson

Joseph Alan “Joey” Hawkinson, 40, of Salina, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025.

Born on Christmas Day in 1984 to Craig and Melody Hawkinson, at 2 lbs. 10 oz, Joey brought warmth and joy to those around him from the very beginning. A resident of Salina, he graduated with honors from South High School in 2005. Though an avid KU basketball fan (attending every basketball game he could,) Joey pursued his education at Kansas State University Salina before continuing with online studies through Cloud County Community College.

In 2012, Joey was baptized at the First Covenant Church. Joey always looked forward to Sunday mornings to attend church and to see his church family, especially his "adopted" Grandpa, Don Lyne and learn from the word.

Joey had a deep love for travel, especially train journeys shared with his family. His family started Joe’s Little Nut Company, a small business that Joey loved to participate in that took them to festivals and community events. Joey thrived in these settings, always eager to meet new people and share a smile.

He is survived by his loving parents, Craig and Melody Hawkinson; his uncle, Robert Hawkinson; and many cousins including Vicanna Smith (Brandon), Jim Mauk (Chelsea Hall), Nathan Hardesty (Christa), Stephanie Breitmeyer, Lance Hoover (Trisha), Lori Ramsey, Tim Hawkinson (Marci), and John Hawkinson (Amanda).

Joey was preceded in death by his grandparents: Lawrence and Mary Hardesty, Leonard and Nancy John, and Don D. Hawkinson uncles Lawrence "Larry" Hardesty, Don W. Hawkinson aunts: Joanna Mauk, Theora hoover, and Kathy Hawkinson.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, October 2, 2025 at First Covenant Church in Salina, Kansas. Graveside services will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, also in Salina.

The family requests donations be made to OCCK or United Cerebral Palsy of Kansas, in care of Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home.
