Joyce Ellen Rathbun

Joyce E. Rathbun, 82, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Friday, September 7th, at Smoky Hill Rehabilitation Center. Joyce was born in McPherson, Kansas on February 16, 1936, a daughter of the late Myrtle (Ellwood) and Ted Rathbun. She worked as a Bookkeeper at Mai Steel, and enjoyed childcare. Joyce was recognized as resident of the month at Smoky Hill Rehabilitation Center in 1995. She arrived at the center in a wheelchair, but through hard work with therapy, she learned to walk independently. She was chosen by residents because she gave daily support and uplifted other residents, and she was admired for the achievement of her goals. She continued to display these attributes throughout her life. She as a member of the First Covenant Church, where she served as a deaconess and as president of FCC Missionary workday's monthly meeting, scheduled groups from her church to lead worship services at Smoky Hill Rehabilitation Center, and attended Spiritual Formation classes each week until her heath prevented her attendance. Survivors include her sister, Connie Kreider; niece, Aimee Kvasir; many cousins, and their families. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, September 10th, at First Covenant Church, Salina, with Rev. Doug McHenry officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 pm at Excelsior Cemetery, Marquette. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Covenant Church 2625 E. Magnolia, Salina, Kansas.
