LaVerna Marie (Meier) Kirn, 87, of Salina, passed away Thursday, August 23rd. She was a daughter of the late Edward and Maria (Wacker) Meier. She attended Lincoln Schools and graduated from Lincoln High School and the Brown Mackie School of Business in Salina. Her employment included St. John’s Military School and the State of Kansas Veteran’s Commission, where she retired in 1995. On January 28, 1956 she was united in marriage to Donald Leo Kirn, son of Maurice and Agnes (McDade) Kirn. She and Donald were engaged in farming west of Solomon and Vine Creek. Donald and LaVerna’s marriage was blessed with a daughter and son. Survivors include her son, Jimmy Kirn of The Colony, Texas; son-in law, Daniel Diehl (Karman) of Wichita; sisters, Joann Schulz (James) of Salina, and Thelma Klassen of Norfolk, Nebraska; brothers, Leroy Meier of Mankato, Richard Meier of Jewell, Eugene Meier (Donna), of Salina, and Ronald Meier (Gloria) of El Dorado. She is also survived by granddaughters, Marci Smith (Todd) of Enterprise, Christie Winkles (Richard) of Princeton, Texas, and Leslie Smithart (Joshua) of Corinth, Texas; grandson, Jeffrey Kirn (Audrey) of Austin, Texas; step-grandson, Michael Diehl (Afton) of Chapman; great granddaughters, Lilliann and Olivia Roy, and Lynzy Kirn, Aspen Winkles, and Emilee Smithart; and great grandsons, Matthew Smith, Dylan Winkles, Ethan and Eli Smithart, and Cooper and Carter Smith. She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald; daughter, Betty Diehl; brothers, Hubert, Robert, and Melvin Meier; and sisters, Dorothy Meier, Bernice Kruse, Regina Henry, and Larinda Meili. Visitation will be Thursday, August 30th from 9 AM to 7 PM at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM. Services will be at 10 AM, Friday, August 31st at Trinity Lutheran Church, 702 S. 9th Street, Salina, with Pastor Mark Boxman officiating. Burial will follow at Gypsum Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, sent in care of Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, 500 S. Ohio Street, Salina.
