Lydia Lipperand, 100, of Russell passed away Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Main Street Manor in Russell. Lydia was born on March 17, 1910 to John Peter and Marie Katherine (Kern) Mai in Russell County. She was born on the Tittle farm just south of the Smokey Hill River. The stone posts and foundation of her birth home remain there. As a young girl her family moved to Trego Center, south of WaKeeney, Kansas. Lydia often recalled with fondness making that trip with her family by horse drawn wagon. Lydia was united in marriage to Fred Edwin Lipprand on March 24, 1929 in WaKeeney. They made their home south of Bunker Hill at the Lipprand family farmstead. Lydia dedicated her life to Jehovah and was baptized in 1941 in St. Louis, Missouri. All six of their children were raised on the family farm and learned to work alongside their parents. Lydia worked hard at a myriad of household and farming chores. She regularly sold cream and eggs in town to help provide for the family. Along with working hard they enjoyed spending time together as a family, fishing, and having picnics at the river. Lydia worked hard but she also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and quilting. This work of her hands has become a legacy that lives on in the homes of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Lydia had a strong faith in the bible and the hope that it held for the future, a hope that she believed in and shared with others. She is survived by six children; Jane Sapone of Wanchese, North Carolina, Dolores Kaufman of Newton, Kansas, Donald Lipprand of Russell, Kansas, Karen Rhyne of Augusta, Kansas, Sylvia Mudd of Gorham, Kansas, and Kenneth Lipprand of Topeka, Kansas. She also has 15 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Fred, who died on February 24, 2005; one grandson, Jeffery Keel; and all 7 of her siblings. Memorial Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 5, 2010 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 15th and Ash, Russell, Kansas with Mr. Andrew Howell officiating. Inurnment will be at the Russell City Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
