Rosie Caldwell, 89, passed away Tuesday February 8, 2011 at the Chapman Valley Nursing Home. She had been a residence of the Chapman Valley Nursing Home since 2007. Rosie was born on December 23, 1921, at her parents’ WaKeeney farmstead, the 8th child of Adam and Maria (Michaels) Schneider. She graduated from WaKeeney High School in 1940. While working as a waitress, Rosie met Dallas “Dally” Caldwell, a bridge construction worker. They were married on December 20, 1941. They lived in Norton, Salina, Houston and Lyons before settling at Burr Oak where Dallas established Caldwell Land Improvement. Rosie was a homemaker and assisted Dally with his business and later on their farm. Dallas proceeded her in death on November 13, 1989. Rosie was a wonderful cook, talented seamstress, enjoyed gardening, and loved to dance. She knitted many slippers and gave them all away to friends and family. She was a member of the Young Matrons’ Club for over 55 years. Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Dierking of Manhattan; sister, Lydia Billinger Hunt of Salina; four grandchildren: Marcus Caldwell of Superior, NE; Matthew Caldwell of Edgar, NE; Angela Bartlett of Abilene, and Tanya Dillon of Albuquerque, NM; 8 great grandchildren and 19 nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her son, Michael Caldwell; 7 brothers, William, Emanuel, Alex, John, Ben, Michael and Theodore; and one sister, O’Linda Nemechek. A memorial service is planned at the Burr Oak Methodist Church in the spring. Inurnment will be at the Burr Oak Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Burr Oak Methodist Church and left in care of the Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home
