Stuart "Stu" Glen Nelson, 66, of Rural New Cambria, Kansas, passed away Friday, March 30th, 2018. Stuart was born in Salina, Kansas on June 17, 1951, son of the late Winifred "Winnie" Grace (Winans) and Glen M. Nelson. He worked as a Conductor for over 39 years for the Union Pacific Railroad and was a longtime farmer. On June 16, 1974, Stu married Karen Base in Salina at the University United Methodist Church. Stu had a strong faith in Jesus, who he accepted as a young boy as his Lord and Savior while watching a Billy Graham crusade. He was baptized in the Solomon River and was the strong leader of the family. He loved being with his family, his grandkids, elk hunting in Colorado, bow hunting for white tail deer, spring turkey hunting, fishing and canoeing on the river, trapping beavers, boating, and golfing. All with his best friend and wife Karen. They attended and were very active in the First Covenant Church. Survivors include his wife, Karen of the home; four daughters, Laurie Ferguson, and husband Jamie, of Rural New Cambria, Kansas, Jamie Huiett and husband Jason, of Rural Bennington, Kansas, Heather Swenson, and husband Bryan, of Rural Solomon, Kansas, Joanie Collier and husband Casey, of Salina, Kansas; son, James "Jim" Nelson, of Rural Abilene, Kansas; brother, Tom Nelson, and wife Sherry, of Eagle, Idaho; sister, Emma Stinchcomb and husband Mike, of Rural Solomon, Kansas, brother, Joseph "Joe" Nelson, of Rural New Cambria, Kansas; sister, JoAnn Davis and husband Rick of McPherson, Kansas. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Clayton, Andrew, Colton, Lillie, Audrey, Catherine, Samuel, Tate, Lane, Oliver, Jase, and Benjamin. He is preceded in death by brother, James Clayton Nelson. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 4th from 9:00 am - 8:00 pm at Carlson - Geisendorf Funeral Home with family present from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Funeral service will be 10:00, Thursday, April 5th at First Covenant Church, Salina, Kansas, with Pastor Doug McHenry officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, New Cambria, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pregnancy Service Center, Hospice of Salina or First Covenant Church in care of Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, 500 S. Ohio, Salina, Kansas 67401.
