Susie Mae Gadson, 89, of Salina, passed away Monday, May 25th, while in the company of family members at Salina Regional Health Center. Susie was born in Bernie, Missouri on January 18, 1926, to the late Lizzie (Chandler) and Rev. Richard Gates. Mrs. Gadson worked as a housekeeper at St. John's Hospital in Salina. She was a dedicated member of St. John's Missionary Baptist Church for over fifty years. She served as a Sunday school teacher, as an officer in the Olivia Hayes mission, was a member of the Mother’s Board, and was always willing and ready to serve in any capacity. Susie Gadson was a member of the Missionary Baptist Convention of Kansas Hall of Fame. She was the widow of William Henry Gadson. Survivors include two daughters, Rosemary Gadson, of Garland, Texas and Carol (Rob) Dixon of Murphysboro, Illinois; six sons, William (Jane) Gadson, of Killeen, Texas; Charles (Judy) Gadson, of Salina; Curzie (Addah) Gadson, of Broomfield, Colorado; Johnny (Linda) Gadson, of Topeka; Bobby (Delores) Gadson, of Wichita; and Jimmy Gadson, of Salina; two brothers, Harvey and Robert Gates both of Moro, Arkansas, ten sisters, Ethel Privitt of Wheatley, Arkansas; Ruth Montgomery of Phoenix, Arizona; Lois January of North Chicago, Illinois; Lilly Sly of Scottsdale, Arizona; Elizabeth Hutchinson of Waukegan, Illinois; Christine (Bennie Ray) Pruitt of Moro, Arkansas; Bernice (Spurgeon) Farmer of Moro, Arkansas; Linda (Elbert) Carr, of Forest City, Arkansas; Ann Harris of Ravenna, Ohio; Mary (Charlie) Thomas of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, 20 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and three sons, Eddie, Paul, and Tommy Gadson. Visitation will be held Thursday from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Carlson - Geisendorf Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at St. John's Missionary Baptist Church in Salina at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 29th, with Pastor Allen D. Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Gypsum Hill Cemetery Salina, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church, 215 S. Chicago, Salina, Kansas 67401.
