Van Russell Vogel, 81, of Salina, passed away Thursday, August 18th. Van was born in a farm home in McPherson County, Kansas on March 18, 1935. Van was the second son born to the late Evangeline (Malm) and Clell Vogel. Van spent his teen and adult life in the Kansas City, Missouri area. Van was the husband of Teresa (Ast) Vogel. Upon retirement, they moved to the Tablerock Lake area and then to Salina, Kansas. Van worked for the Midwest Research Institute for 32 years as a carpenter. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and many friends. He also enjoyed being a volunteer at Salina Regional Hospital in the Gift Shop for 8 years. Survivors include his wife; son, David Vogel, (Martha), of Lenexa, Kansas; daughter-in-law Mary Stevens (Dan), of Tonganoxie, Kansas; step-daughter Melissa Horney, (Keith) of Emporia, Kansas; step-sons, Marc Williams, of Emporia, Kansas; Scott Chrisman, of Atlanta, Georgia; Tim Chrisman, of Atlanta, Georgia; brother, Glen Vogel (Margaret) , of Seattle, Washington; sister, Patricia Kenski, of Kansas City, Missouri. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Bryan (Marianna) Vogel of Florida, Jim (Tanya) Vogel of Illinois, Emily Vogel of Lenexa, Kansas, Keith Horney and Chandler Horney, both of Emporia, Kansas; 4 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents; a wife, Audene (Cook) and son, Daniel. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Amos Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Dr., Shawnee, Kansas 66203.
